Launch of New Waste Prevention Map for Leicestershire

January 20, 2025

Over the last few months, the Waste Initiatives team have been working hard to create a map for the residents of Leicestershire to find organisations and services that will reduce their waste. This includes places like ReHome Zones at our Recycling and Household Waste Sites, where items can be left to be reused, refill shops, community fridges, fixer groups and much more. If it helps reduce waste it should be listed it on the map.

There is data to suggest that two thirds of the British public would like refill or reuse options to be available more widely. There are lots of great options already available in Leicestershire and this map should provide a platform for people to find local options to them that they may have been unaware of before.

Organisations are being asked to sign up on the Lesswaste Website by completing a form and eligible organisations will be added to the map. It is hoped that by making it easier to find places to repair, refill and reuse items it will become more accessible, and people will keep items in use for longer or avoid excess packaging in the first place. This will not only often save money, but it will help reduce environmental impact by protecting resources in creating new items.
