Rehome Zones
November 12, 2024
Leicestershire residents now have the opportunity to bring household items they no longer want or use but that are still in a good condition to their local Recycling & Household Waste Site in order to be found a new home.
Items that are particularly welcomed are household and garden furniture, home office equipment, bicycles & scooters and handheld or petrol DIY & garden tools such as petrol-powered lawnmowers & other equipment.
All soft furnishings must have a compliant fire label attached, some minor cosmetic damage or rust may be acceptable and items must require no more than light cleaning (e.g. dusting). Items must be clean, not altered or modified and not defaced or damaged in any way that effects the use or appearance e.g. no visible scratches or chipped, cracked or broken glass. Items intended for reuse should be taken to the Re-Home Zone area on site; site staff may also intercept items they identify as suitable for reuse.
Participating sites are Barwell, Bottesford, Coalville, Kibworth, Loughborough, Melton Mowbray, Mountsorrel, Shepshed and Whetstone.
Please note that no electrical equipment, gas bottles, batteries, fluorescent tubes or light bulbs can be accepted for reuse. Please see https://www.leicestershire.gov.uk/environment-and-planning/waste-and-recycling/how-do-i-dispose-of for details of how to dispose of these items. Liquid paint can only be taken to the Whetstone site and with a valid paint permit, even if the paint is suitable for reuse.
Residents are not permitted to remove any item from site, including from these areas.
