Recycle Week 2024
October 14, 2024
From Monday 14 October to Sunday 20 October 2024, Leicestershire County Council are supporting Recycle Now’s annual national Recycle Week campaign.
The theme for this year’s campaign is ‘Rescue Me – Recycle’ which aims to encourage everyone across the UK to recycle those items which are often missed out of our kerbside recycling.
Latest research show that while we’re a nation of recyclers – nine out of ten people regularly recycle – nearly eight out of ten of us (79%) put one or more items into the rubbish bin that could have been recycled.
To encourage everyone to ‘Rescue Me – Recycle’, Recycle Now have characterised five of the most commonly missed recyclable items to bring the campaign to life.
The condemned containers include Dee Dee the deodorant, Rey the plastic trigger spray, Yogi the yoghurt pot, Fitz the perfume bottle and humble Hube – the toilet roll tube. The group will feature in school education packs and on social media.
Whilst we ask for deodorant cans, yoghurt pots and toilet roll tubes to be recycled in line with the campaign, we ask for the trigger spray heads to be removed from the bottle and placed in the rubbish bin whilst the bottle can be put in the recycling if clean and dry. Any glass perfume bottles can be placed in the recycling but please remove the top first.
We will be posting content on our social media platforms throughout the week to encourage Leicestershire residents to recycle one more item.
If we all recycle one more item, we could save tonnes of material from being disposed of.
